Guide: Find Your Ring Size

News

Stories from MUUR Atelier.

Buying a ring online is exciting, but the fear of ordering the wrong size can be a hurdle. A ring that fits perfectly is not just about comfort; it is about security. Whether you are surprising a loved one or treating yourself, finding the correct fit is easier than you think. Here is your comprehensive guide to measuring your ring size accurately from home.

Option 1: Measure an Existing Ring

If you already have a ring that fits the intended finger perfectly, this is often the easiest and most accurate method. However, ensure the ring is perfectly round and not bent out of shape.

  • 1 Select the Ring: Choose a ring that fits the exact finger you are shopping for. Remember, your left and right hands may have different sizes.
  • 2 Measure the Diameter: Place the ring on a ruler. Measure the inside diameter in millimeters (mm). Do not include the metal band itself in the measurement.

Option 2: Measure Your Finger

If you do not have a ring to reference, you can measure your finger using a simple piece of string or a strip of paper. Follow these steps carefully for the best result.

The String Method

  1. Cut a piece of non-stretchy string or a strip of paper about 10cm long.
  2. Wrap it around the base of your finger. It should be snug but not too tight.
  3. Important: Ensure the string can slide over your knuckle comfortably.
  4. Mark the point where the end of the string or paper overlaps.
  5. Measure the length from the end to your mark in millimeters. This is your finger's circumference.
Warning: Avoid measuring your fingers when they are cold. Cold fingers can shrink by up to half a size. For the most accurate reading, measure your hands at the end of the day when they are warm.

Crucial Factors to Consider

Getting the number right is the first step, but the style of the ring also dictates the fit. Here is how different designs and conditions affect sizing:

Wide Bands vs. Thin Bands

Wide bands (thicker than 4mm) fit tighter than thin bands. If you are choosing a wide design, we recommend going up a half size for comfort.

The Knuckle Factor

If your knuckles are significantly larger than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between. The ring must slide over the knuckle but not spin loosely.
